Securely Shopping Online: One Time Use Credit Cards

There are so many different worries and concerns when shopping online that some people may shy away from making major purchases. In doing this they miss out on major deals and state of the art equipment. There is no reasons to completely stop shopping online. You just need to take certain precautions to make sure that your credit card and contact information are kept safe.

Now credit card companies are offering a new way for their customers to shop online. Instead of using their actual credit cards, they can get a special, for one use only, credit card number and use it to make the purchase. If someone ends up with that number they cannot use it again to make a purchase and it is not connected to the customer. Bonus features like these keep people shopping online and give them a more secure feeling.

If this is something that you think your credit card company offers you can check online and find out how to sign up for it. Each company is different and you need to figure out what needs to take place for each and every online purchase to have a separate credit card number. While it may take some time to figure out this feature, it will be well worth any effort that you need to put in.

PayPal is another way to make purchases securely online. You can pay with a balance that you have added to your own PayPal account or you can use your credit card. PayPal works as a middle man. They are the only company that gets your credit card. You can use the same credit card or multiple cards on the same account. It is necessary to sign up for an account with PayPal but most people find that they will use the service more than one time. There is no fee to use PayPal this way.

Avoiding Risks in Online Shopping

Of all of the countless capabilities of the Internet, one of its most beloved uses is online shopping. One can buy just about everything he or she could ever need or want on the Internet through sites such as Ebay, Walmart.com, Amazon, Craigslist (though Craigslist does work differently than most “online shopping” sites), and target.com. Virtually everyone with access to the Internet has at least been on such a site, and many people have begun doing nearly all their shopping from their own computer. This gives one access to special sales and offers, a larger variety of stock, and saves the time and gas usually associated with shopping, while allowing one to compare prices between stores simply by bringing up a new tab on their browser. There are still dangers associated with online shopping though, so some precautions should be taken before making certain purchases.

The dangers of shopping online are usually avoidable, and otherwise they can usually be reduced. One such danger is releasing credit card information to people online. This is usually only a danger on sites such as Ebay, where individuals are able to sell things without “going through” the website or a business. This issue does not arise on store websites such as Walmart or Target, since your credit card information is not processed by individuals, but by a large company. This is also not an issue on Amazon.com because things sold on Amazon “go through” Amazon so that you will not have to give your information to anyone except for Amazon. On Craigslist, one should be very careful if an offer requires credit card information online. Since it is basically a forum for people to sell their own things and services, usually it is best to stick to cash or checks as payment. Problems on Ebay can also be avoided by simply using a different payment method when possible, such as Paypal.
