SF WoW accepts nominations of qualified women from around the world for its Top25 Women on the Web awards. The nomination and judging processes are outlined below.
Nomination
SF WoW created an updated nomination form to allow anyone, anywhere, to nominate a qualified woman for consideration. The call for nominations will also be announced in an international press release to be sent to news organizations and other technology associations. On the nomination form, the nominating person enters the candidate's name and lists different resources where researchers can find out as much information as possible about the nominee. The amount of information given makes the process a bit easier on the research team, but has no direct effect on the ultimate outcome.
Post-Nomination
Nominations close. All nominations are submitted via email and the website page. Nominations are automatically inserted into a database to which only the SF WoW site manager has access.
Three to five Top25 event organizers verify the integrity of the nominations (accidental duplicates, typos, etc.). No judging takes place.
Organizers send database contents (name and other submission information) to the research team, comprised of SF WoW volunteers. The research team has 2-3 weeks to create bios and do additional research on the nominees.
Several of the Top25 event organizers make sure that the nominations are consistent and then compile judging packets containing an equal number of nominee packets (in preparation of the judging process). No judging has occurred at this point.
Judging
Judges receive nomination packets by mail.
Two weeks later, judges must determine their top candidates prior to a judges' meeting.
Judges meet and discuss their respective "A List" of nominees. All must agree on the women chosen as Top25 awardees.
This Year's Judges
Judges are culled from the previous year's Top25 awardees. Once the judges for 2002 are determined, an announcement will be made.
